What is a good age for a child to start music lessons

Piano Lessons, Piano Lessons for Beginners, The Music Factory OC

” How old should my kid be before we start them in music lessons? This is a super common question that we get at The Music Factory. And the answer is. “It depends”. Now you may have been hoping it would be a bit simpler than that but it really does vary a bit from child to child and from instrument to instrument.  Below I have outlined a few of the main things to think about when deciding when to start your child in Music Lessons.

As a general rule,  4 to 6 years old is a good age depending again on the instrument and the individual child. If you are starting your child in piano lessons you can possibly start as young as three years old. Piano is a great instrument for younger kids because it doesn’t require as much physicality as drums or guitar. If you are starting in drums or guitars we recommend the child be 5 to 6 years old. Guitar requires a decent amount of hand strength to fret the strings and make chords and Sometimes the younger kids struggle a bit with this.

Kidzrock

A great option for kids 4 to 7 years old is our Kidzrock program. This is an after school and summer camp program that gets kids as young as 4 playing in a rock band. The kids play modified instruments and rotate between guitar, piano, drums and vocals. The songs are kid friendly and are written specifically for the program. It’s really a great way to introduce kids to music and since they get to play different instruments it helps to determine where to start them when they are ready for full time lessons.

At TheMusic Factory we also offer a program called the ” 30 Day Lessons Pass” which allows you to do a month of lessons for no money down and risk free! At the end of the month if you don’t sign up, you don’t pay. It’s a great way to see if your child is ready to start playing music. One of the reasons we started offering tis program was to make it easier for parents to decide if the time was right without having to worry about signing long term contracts or paying for something only to find out that their child just isn’t ready. This program really helps take away that anxiety.
